The Legacy of Celine Seubert

Sharing the story of the legacy of Celine Seubert is really about sharing the story of the Richard and Celine Seubert Family.

It was apparent that nothing was more important to Celine than family and she passed on that value to her six children, three foster children, 15 grandchildren and 19 (soon to be 20) great-grandchildren.

Celine and her husband, Richard (Dick), were married for 64 years, living for over the last 40 years in Rozellville, Wisconsin. Through the years, the "Seubert Family" grew to include many friends, neighbors and customers of the Buck-A-Neer Supper Club, the restaurant they owned and operated with their son and daughter-in-law. Now owned by two of their sons and daughters-in-law, the Buck-A-Neer and its tradition of great food and great hospitality is also part of Celine's legacy.

Another part of Celine's legacy is the fact that, though she was not defined by her health, she was one of the longest surviving heart transplant recipients in Wisconsin. Celine received her new heart in 1987, at the age of 59, despite being older than typically allowed for a transplant. Doctors gave her five years to live, but her sprightliness and resilience were noted by her family as the reasons she endured for more than twenty years past that initial prognosis.

In Celine's honor and in gratitude for the care she received over the years at Marshfield Clinic, the Seubert Family – with leadership from Celine's grandson, Rich Seubert, and granddaughter, Christina Zaleski – created an endowment to benefit heart research. They set out to raise over one million dollars in five years through the Rich Seubert Celebrity Trap Shoot.

The annual trap shoot brings together many members of the Seubert Family for a weekend to volunteer their time to raise funds for heart research. It is clear that Celine's children and grandchildren inherited her "hospitality" gene. Their welcoming personalities are a major reason for the event's success, as attendees return each April to the event. They are welcomed back as friends and share memories from prior years while enjoying a great time together creating new memories.

Celine's legacy continues to be written through the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as the research that will be conducted long into the future as a result of funding from the Celine Seubert Endowment in Cardiology Research.
