Minimally invasive hysterectomy

If your doctor has recommended a hysterectomy, you may be a good candidate for a minimally invasive procedure performed with a robot assisting the surgeon.

Robot-assisted surgery uses precise imaging and placement tools that allow surgeons to accomplish hysterectomies without surgically opening a large area in the patient’s abdomen during complex surgery.

Marshfield Clinic physicians have performed hundreds of robotic assisted surgical procedures, including hysterectomy and gynecologic cancer, using the da Vinci® system.

The benefits include:

  • Shorter hospital stays – usually about 24 hours compared to several days with traditional procedures
  • Quicker recovery – patients are often back to their normal routine in fewer than three weeks
  • Less blood loss
  • Less pain
  • Fewer complications

Please note that the robot does not perform the surgery. Your doctor performs the surgery using a robotic tool that is less invasive than normal procedures.

Not every patient is a candidate for robotic surgery. However, your doctor can determine if robot-assisted surgery is a good solution for your health condition.
