Tammy Schreiner

Tammy Schreiner
Administrative Assistant, Business Development
Center: Marshfield Center
Years at Marshfield Clinic: 38

Tammy Schreiner feels a close association with farmers. Her mother and uncle grew up on a farm and suffered from lung disorders. In addition, many of the people she knows are farmers. So it's easy to understand why Tammy supports a program that helps farmers be healthier and safer.

She and her husband, Todd, started attending the Auction of Champions four years ago. This annual gala is a major fundraiser for the National Farm Medicine Center (NFMC), a program of Marshfield Clinic Research Institute. Since the first Auction in 1982, this event has raised more than $3 million to support farm safety programs and research.

One of the NFMC's major current initiatives, funded in part by the Auction of Champions, is a campaign to fit older tractors with roll-over protection systems (ROPS). These systems are designed to help avoid crushing the operator in the event of a roll-over accident.

"The Auction is a very worthy cause, even for those of us who are not farmers," she said. "Marshfield and surrounding areas are huge farming communities, plus we live in the country so most of our friends, neighbors and co-workers are farmers."

The Auction raises money in several ways, including live and silent auctions. The Schreiners have been involved with acquiring the prizes for the auctions and in 2013 accepted the challenge of leading those efforts.

The 11-member Prize Acquisition Committee contacted about 155 businesses, including 35 who were new to the community. Tammy and Todd, a sales representative for Nelson-Jameson – a supplier to the food and dairy industries – called on many of these businesses.

"The Schreiners' dedication to increasing support from community businesses has a significant impact on the success of this event," said Tiffany Halan, special events coordinator for Marshfield Clinic. "We are so fortunate to have them involved."
