 Pediatrics Resident Life

From the moment a resident or fellow begins the training process, it is clear that personal needs are not only respected, they are valued.

Those who join our program want a humanistic training experience and are comfortable in a program that continually strives to expand medical student and training opportunities from the moment they first pass through the Clinic doors to the moment they graduate. In fact, some residents describe this as having "the best of both worlds" with a large tertiary care center in a rural American city.

And what about this place dubbed “The City in the Center”? Marshfield is a cozy community with:

  • about 20,000 people in central Wisconsin.
  • reasonably-priced housing, ranging from apartment complexes to single houses and duplexes, at an average rental cost of $625 to $900 a month
  • very little commuting or traffic
  • a great place to raise a family

During your unscheduled training time, numerous recreational choices are available throughout the year:

  • YMCA
  • Well-kept golf courses
  • Miles and miles of trails and land for biking, fishing, walking, skiing, hunting or snowmobiling
  • Recreation includes soccer leagues, volleyball leagues, racquetball and tennis opportunities and curling Marshfield Clinic Resident Association – a group of residents, spouses, and significant others who plan events and social opportunities that encourage a balance between training and time to care of their personal lives.
  • Marshfield Clinic’s Resident Well-Being Committee – a confidential consultation service where a RWBC member will listen to our personal, interpersonal, professional and program concerns. The RWBC helps to promote a healthy and humane learning and work environment for the house staff by ‘shining a light’ on those resources currently available to them.
  • Child care at the nearby hospital-sponsored center give you the option of visiting your child periodically. Early morning and late evening hours are available.

From the moment a resident or fellow begins the training process, it is clear that personal needs are not only respected, they are valued.
