Botox vs. fillers: What's right for you?

BOTOX, Juvederm® and Restylane® are highly effective at treating lip lines, crow's feet, forehead creases and other unwanted wrinkles.

BOTOX is ideal for reducing lines. It's a sterile form of Botulinum Toxin A that weakens the muscle beneath the wrinkle and prevents it from moving so you get out of the habit of squinting and using wrinkle-causing muscles.

"It's one of the most common ways to freshen a tired looking face," says Dr. Stella Patten, dermatologist with Marshfield Clinic.

Dermal filler injections such as Juvederm and Restylane plump thin lips, sculpt cheeks, correct acne scars and fill in stubborn lines and shallow contours.

The gel filler is composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in our bodies. Results are almost immediate.

When lines are merely superficial, BOTOX is adequate. But, deep forehead furrows and obvious marionette lines (the creases running from mouth to chin) often call for both BOTOX and fillers.

Freezing fat: A new option for ‘problem spots’

Eating right? Check. Exercising? Check. “Problem spots” still there? Check …

Without a doubt, a healthful diet and daily dose of activity are the best ways to lose and keep off weight.

Unfortunately, genetics may not always agree when it comes to your tummy, love handles, butt and thighs where fat may linger long after you’ve dropped additional pounds.

For some, a new, nonsurgical weight-loss option called CoolSculpting® may be the answer.
