Metabolic & Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Procedures

Our experienced surgeons at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield perform various procedures.

Roux-en-y gastric bypass

This operation uses surgical staples to create a small stomach pouch to limit the amount of food that can be comfortably eaten. Next, the remainder of the stomach and a portion of the small intestine is bypassed, which limits the absorption of calories and nutrients.

Sleeve gastrectomy

A stapling device is used to remove 75 percent or more of the stomach. The narrow portion (sleeve) that remains limits the amount of food that can be comfortably eaten. This procedure can be performed with robotic surgery using the da Vinci® Surgical System.

LAP-BAND Surgery

An adjustable gastric band placed around the upper portion of the stomach limits the amount of food that can be comfortably eaten. We continue to maintain, revise or remove adjustable gastric bands as needed, but we no longer insert new adjustable gastric bands such as LAP-BAND for the primary weight loss method.
