Adults and Seniors - Immunizations

man and woman walk through woodsProtecting yourself from preventable diseases doesn't end as you grow older.

As you get older, your immune system tends to weaken, putting you at higher risk for certain diseases. There are several vaccines that can protect you from these serious and sometimes deadly diseases.

Talk to your provider to make sure you are up-to-date on the recommended vaccines.

It's influenza (flu) season. Flu vaccine recommendations for adults and seniors

As an adult, you should receive an annual vaccine every year.

Recommended vaccinations for adults and seniors:

Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough (Pertussis)  – you need at least one dose of Tdap (diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis), then a Td (diphtheria-tetanus) or Tdap booster every 10 years.

Influenza (Flu) – recommended every year in the fall, but can be given anytime during influenza season

Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) – people over the age of 65, or those under 65 with high risk conditions

Shingles (Zoster) – people over the age of 50 even if you already had shingles
