 First Year - Resident Well-Being

First-year resident smiles at mentor

First Year Adjustments and Advice

Welcome to residency at Marshfield Clinic and Marshfield Medical Center. Residents describe having a lot to learn in their first months here, including: patient care activities; structure of units and clinics; protocols for contacting seniors and attendings; organization structure of the clinic and hospital; among others. While you have many things to learn and do, it is also important to respect the major life changes that are occurring as you transition from medical school to residency. Some of the life changes may include a major move, change in the frequency of time with family and friends, a change in climate, a change in the culture of the community. Here is a short article from the February 2020 Journal of Graduate Medical Education that addresses transitions through medical training and provides practical tools to support with the transition.
