Schedule/Curriculum:
The Emergency Medicine Fellowship curriculum includes rotations in trauma, pediatric emergency medicine as well as subspecialty rotations in cardiology, orthopedics, ENT, surgery, ICU/CCU, anesthesiology, neurology, hematology/oncology, EMS, and radiology. The curriculum is designed to offer comprehensive immersion in rural emergency medicine. The fellow will spend time in the emergency departments of Marshfield Medical Center-Marshfield and Marshfield Medical Center-Rice Lake to facilitate a broad rural emergency medicine learning experience.
The program offers one position per academic year. Fellows will work 12-14 shifts per month in the emergency departments while completing rotations which complement the learning experience. In addition, the fellow will work with the program director to develop/publish a research project of their choosing.
Program Goals and Objectives:
- To appreciate the breadth and depth of emergency medicine
- To develop procedural skills necessary in the practice of emergency medicine
- To provide evidence-based and cost-effective emergency care
- To develop time-efficient skills in history taking, examination, and formulation of differential diagnoses in the emergency setting
- To develop skills in understanding subtle presentations of critical illness in the emergency department
- To develop appropriate skills to facilitate prehospital and inter-facility transport care of emergency patients
- To develop communication skills with physician colleagues, patients, and families.
