“Being positive and approachable makes it easier for patients to work with you to create successful outcomes.”

Heather Landwehr provides care to patients dealing with a wide range of skin conditions, including acne, warts and psoriasis. While her desire to help others through medicine began while she was in high school, her decision to concentrate on dermatology occurred while she worked as a physician assistant at Marshfield Clinic Weston Center.

“I performed a lot of work for a physician who specialized in sclerotherapy to remove varicose and spider veins,” she recalled. “I started to enjoy the concept of helping people with skin problems and eventually moved to Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee to work in its dermatology department.”

This career shift came with her growing desire to move out of the “background” into a position where she could have more direct patient contact and interaction. “I like to provide patients with information in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand,” she said. Beyond that, she added, “I appreciate the ongoing relationships you can form with patients in a close-knit community such as Wausau.”

Landwehr earned her physician assistant degree at University of Wisconsin Madison and her graduate degree at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. She is board certified as a physician assistant.

When she is not helping to care for patients, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and walking with her two dogs.
