Provider Bio down arrow

As a medical oncologist/hematologist, Dr. Arlene Gayle specializes in caring for people with cancer and blood diseases.

She was an internal medicine specialist at Marshfield Clinic Park Falls Center for six years before deciding to pursue specialty training in oncology and hematology. She felt that people with cancer are some of the sickest patients a doctor will see, and would benefit the most from her compassionate care.

"I listen and I'm empathetic," she said. "Who needs that more than a patient who is suffering with cancer?"

She knew she wanted to stay in the Marshfield Clinic Health System because "it's a great place to practice medicine and the people are wonderful to work with."

She has a special interest in women's health as it relates to cancer, chemoprevention (preventing recurrence of cancer without the use of chemotherapy), participating in clinical trials to make available the most effective therapy and performing painless bone marrow aspirations and biopsies.

Dr. Gayle earned her medical degree at the University of West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and a fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison. She returned to Madison for her fellowship in oncology and hematology.

She and her husband, Carl, have two children. She enjoys exercise and reading to her children.
