Dr. Jayanth Vedre was surrounded by medical role models during his childhood in India; several of his cousins are physicians. “I spent a lot of time with them, and I recognized at an early age that being a doctor was a noble and valuable calling,” he said. This recognition inspired him to undertake the intense competition to enter medical school in his native country.

As an intensivist, Dr. Vedre treats patients with critical cardiology, pulmonary, kidney and infectious disease conditions. He said it was this range of opportunities that attracted him to internal medicine and critical care.

“Helping people is the reason I became a doctor,” he said. “It makes my day to know that I have provided my best effort to make patients feel better and get back home.”

Dr. Vedre earned his medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, Karnataka, India. He completed residencies in internal medicine at Michigan State University- Hurley Medical Center, Flint, and Marshfield Clinic/Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital. He completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
