Trauma services

What is a trauma center?

Trauma centers are different than emergency departments (ED). You might choose to visit an ED if you break a bone or feel faint. Usually it's not your choice to visit a trauma center.

Highly-trained teams and technology equip trauma centers for serious injuries. They care for people who have had car crashes, falls or farm injuries, to name a few. In these cases, emergency medical services (EMS) and first responders take you to a trauma center.

Extreme injuries call for expert care. That’s what we give you. A neurosurgeon can care for a brain injury. An orthopedic surgeon can care for fractures. Likewise, other specialists work together and offer immediate expertise based on your trauma.

Emergency hospital referrals

Medical providers, when your patients at other hospitals need trauma care, we welcome you to our referral service known as MC CARES.

Families and visitors

Just like you, we want to return your loved one home as soon as possible. To do this, our priority must be their care, which means we cannot always allow visitors.

Critical care unit visiting hours vary. Check with your unit’s nurse’s station for exact hours.

General hospital visiting hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., once your loved one is stable. Again, times vary. Always speak with your loved one’s care team for exact hours.
