"I made a promise to my parents, who both had cancer, that I would be in a position someday to reward those who provide extraordinary care, and to try to help others to improve," said Scott Polenz. "At Marshfield Clinic, we are dedicated to providing staff members who give the highest quality of care in a friendly manner."

Polenz joined Marshfield Clinic in early 2011. The Eau Claire native also worked for the Clinic 12 years earlier in his career and was a hospital executive in western Wisconsin for several years.

As the administrator of the West/Northwest District of Marshfield Clinic, he oversees a sprawling territory that includes major facilities in Eau Claire, Rice Lake, Ladysmith, Chippewa Falls and Hayward.

"It's my job to make sure we have the right people in the right places, and that we're being efficient and effective in our operations," he said. He and the Clinic also need to keep growing the right services and make sure patients have ready access to primary care. He takes his responsibility personally.

Polenz makes steady gifts to Marshfield Clinic through Project Shine, the annual employee appeal.

"People sometimes forget that Marshfield Clinic is not just about health care, but also research and education," he said. "My dad certainly benefited for years from research and Oncologist Dr. Dean Delmastro's amazing care. It's very important to me to have an opportunity to give back to support cancer research."

Polenz earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He earned a master's degree in business administration from Edgewood College in Madison. He is a certified public accountant.

He enjoys exercising, traveling, gardening and reading. His wife, Kristin, operates a yoga studio in their home. They have a seven-year-old daughter, Katerina.
