Marshfield Clinic's Resident Research Program provides an exceptional clinical and/or public health research experience in a community-based setting and strives to expand upon the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements.
This curriculum integrates the ACGME core competencies through didactics, practice and investigation-based learning, quality improvement activities and continual assessment. The following core elements guide all aspects of the program:
-
To foster competent, critically thinking physicians, dentists and pharmacists and critical consumers of medical information
To produce physicians, dentists and pharmacists who use best evidence in making decisions about care of individuals and communities (knowing how to interpret the literature-knowing basic biostatistics)
To cultivate physicians, dentists and pharmacists who maintain inquisitive attitudes toward medical information and an appreciation for research to gain new knowledge and improve quality of care throughout their careers
To provide physicians, dentists and pharmacists tools to implement a personal or system plan to create change to meet best practice guidelines
Trainees in the Marshfield Clinic Residency and Fellowship Program have the ongoing resource and support of the Resident/Fellow Research Advisory Committee, individual faculty members and a dedicated research facilitator. The world class

You will be expected to be an active learner throughout your residency and beyond. Evidence-based medicine is stressed on all rotations. Frequent opportunities are available for those wishing to present interesting clinical cases through Grand Rounds, Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) Conferences, Journal Club and Case Conferences. Additionally, active literature searches to enhance knowledge and improve clinical care are expected as the norm.
A superb
medical library is available on site.
Of note, Marshfield Clinic Research Institute (MRCI) represents one of the country’s largest private research centers with 25 Ph.D. and M.D. scientists and 160 other staff. Now in its sixth decade, MCRI has five research centers and also provides research services such as biostatistics, biomedical informatics, study design and publication support.
