A Team:  Trauma/SICU/Acute Care Surgery and Pediatric Surgery
B Team:  General Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, Hepatobiliary Surgery and Oncology Surgery
C Team:  Vascular Surgery and Breast Surgery

Program Year 1 (PGY 1) 

  • 2 months B Team
  • 2.5 months A Team
  • 2 months C Team
  • 1 month SICU
  • 2 weeks Anesthesia
  • 1 month Hyperbaric Medicine & Tissue Repair
  • 1 month Plastic Surgery
  • 2 months Night Float

Program Year 2 (PGY 2)

  • 3 months B Team
  • 2 months C Team
  • 2 months A Team
  • 2 weeks Urology
  • 1 month Burn (UW-Madison)
  • 1 month ENT
  • 2 weeks Gynecology
  • 2 months Night Float

Program Year 3 (PGY 3)

  • 3 months B Team
  • 2 months A Team
  • 2 months C Team
  • 2 months Endoscopy/Colonoscopy
  • 1 month Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • 1 month ENT
  • 1 month SICU

Program Year 4 ​(PGY 4)

  • 1.5 months Trauma Surgery (MCW-Milwaukee)
  • 1 month Transplant (MCW-Milwaukee)

Monday

  • 1st – Surgical Oncology Conference
  • 2nd-5th – Indications Conference
  • Weekly – Breast Multidisciplinary Conference

Tuesday

  • 1st – Residents Business Meeting
  • 2nd – Radiology Conference
  • 4th – Simulation Lab
  • Weekly GI Tumor Conference

Wednesday

  • Weekly – Morbidity/Mortality Conference

Thursday

  • 1st – Applied Medical Knowledge in Surgery Conference
  • 2nd – Journal Conference
  • 3rd – Research Conference
  • 4th – Vascular Surgery Conference

Friday

  • 1st – Simulation Lab
  • 2nd – Pediatric Surgery Conference
  • 3rd – Trauma Peer Review QI
  • 4th -  Applied Medical Knowledge Conference

Call Schedule

  • General Surgery Resident call varies with each of the service rotations but follows the ACGME program requirements for accredited residency programs. There is no in-house call.
