New Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation to host 100 year celebration

Oct. 10, 2016

Oct. 10-14 Legacy Week events to celebrate enriching lives for generations

As Marshfield Clinic celebrates 100 years of enriching lives in Central Wisconsin with patient care, research and education, the newly created Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation will host Legacy Week events Oct. 10-14 at Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center.

Legacy Week special events will honor Marshfield Clinic's generous supporters and donors as the new Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation looks forward to the future, including an Emeritus Reunion and Founders' Dinner at Hotel Marshfield.

In addition to special events, Legacy Week will also include invited speakers and events at Marshfield Clinic Marshfield Center. These presentations will be free and open to the public.

"Marshfield Clinic has been enriching lives for generations, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone with our Legacy Week events," said Teri Wilczek, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation. "We have grown to become an integrated health system, because of the remarkable philanthropic support provided by our donors. The new Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation will help position our organization for the next 100 years so we can continue to provide compassionate, innovative care to the generations of patients who receive care from Marshfield Clinic Health System every day."

Over the past 100 years, more than 37,000 donors have donated nearly $100 million to patient care, research and education programs at Marshfield Clinic. The new Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation will assume new fundraising responsibilities aligned with Marshfield Clinic Health System's strategic initiatives. A Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation board, dedicated to philanthropy, will allow philanthropic support to continue to grow to pursue new initiatives and enrich the lives of patients. Dr. William Hocking has been appointed board chair.

Marshfield Clinic currently employs over 7,000 employees and over 700 world-class physicians, covering 86 specialties, and providing patient care at over 50 locations throughout Wisconsin.  Serving a region with a median income of $40,000 and average medical debt of $3,000 underscores the critical role philanthropy must play as Marshfield Clinic Health System grows, according to Dr. Susan Turney, MCHS CEO.

"As a mission-driven organization, our top priority is to improve the health of our community, and do so in a way that is fiscally responsible for our patients," Turney said. "We are so excited to have a Foundation dedicated to philanthropic support of our mission and to celebrate our commitment to our patients during Legacy Week."

Marshfield Clinic Health System (MCHS) oversees Marshfield Clinic and other subsidiaries, including Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc., MCIS, Inc., Marshfield Clinic Health System Foundation, Flambeau Hospital in Park Falls and Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake. Marshfield Clinic, with more than 50 locations in Wisconsin, serves patients through accessible, high quality health care, research and education; with more than 700 physician specialists in 86 specialties and subspecialties and more than 6,500 employees. MCHS is overseen by a Board of Directors with 13 independent members and 11 physicians who comprise the Marshfield Clinic Board.
