Dr. Harry C. Cole, III, an orthopedic surgeon, treats bone and joint problems including knee and shoulder issues. Dr. Cole also specializes in repairing complex fractures.

"Orthopedic surgeons help people with musculoskeletal complaints – broken bones, sore joints, arthritis and common injuries to the wrists, ankles, fingers and toes," says Dr. Cole. "It's both surgical and medical issues, everything from carpal tunnel syndrome, joint reconstruction and alignment issues to complex trauma."

In particular, Dr. Cole does a lot of knee and shoulder work, and has a strong interest in complex fractures.

After a fractured bone in his back ended his college athletic career, Dr. Cole worked as a firefighter and became among the first paramedics on the East Coast. He became interested in orthopedics during medical school.

"I'd been handling lots of trauma, and found it was rewarding to be able to help injured people by taking care of their specific problems," he explains. "I have been blessed that Marshfield Clinic has allowed me to develop a strong team with my physician assistant and surgical technologist to provide the best possible orthopedic care."

Dr. Cole and his wife have two young boys. He relishes all the time they can spend together as a family. When he can, he enjoys the outdoor recreational opportunities of the area, like biking, hiking and skiing both downhill and cross country.

Dr. Cole is board certified in orthopedic surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of New Mexico Hospitals in Albuquerque.
