Wausau Community

The Wausau area is located in the valley of the Wisconsin River. With more than 75,000 people calling Wausau home, it is the largest municipality in central Wisconsin. The beauty of the area is enhanced with its various waterways and the proximity of Rib Mountain, one of Wisconsin's highest points.

Wausau offers its residents and visitors a myriad of recreational opportunities including snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, bike riding, swimming, golfing, boating, hunting, and much more.

Wausau is host to the Winter Badger State Games, a yearly Olympic-style event attended by many. National and international athletes come to Wausau to kayak its world-class whitewater course, which has hosted World Cup competition as well as the Pan Am Cup races.

Its various recreational opportunities are combined with a friendly and safe family-oriented community. Wausau has a strong history of supporting education, the arts, and business development. It is no wonder why a variety of nationally known businesses in the insurance, manufacturing and transportation fields are headquartered in Wausau.

Many of the students that graduate from one of the four local high schools stay in Wausau and continue their education at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County, a two-year college in the UW system. Students also can receive a technical education at Northcentral Technical College. Wausau has earned the title of "All American City", and with everything it has to offer, it is easy to see why.
